And, unless I read it wrong, he wasn't working the gun counter. he merely stopped the (alleged) thief after the gun counter guy(s) yelled for help.

Idiots....so quick to stomp around with their anti gun bullshit yet they are totally oblivious to the facts of the situation.

Good thing he didn't have a corrupt union to represent him. He'd still be arguing his point and still be out on the street starving while union officials would be in the penthouse eating lobster and caviar collecting his dues.

Okay,so Crouch violated policy...corporate could have simply suspended the guy for a period of time and none of this would have even been known about but they had no problem going whole hog and firing a seemingly decent and upstanding employee.....good thing the social media hordes came down on their asses.

It's possible someone pointed out the lack of wisdom in publicizing their corporate policy of "not stopping gun thieves", and how that would bite them in the ass in a future lawsuit.

Reminds me of that Dr. in Philly that stopped the shooter with his gun despite Hospital having a no gun policy. They were going to fire but realized what the blowback would be and instead disciplined and let the Doc stay.
As mentioned, most stores have a policy of you can't interact, stop, chase, etc. mainly for employees safety but really to protect their own butts! In this case, like someone already said, the employee should have received a "write up" for violating company policy, and then a handshake for stopping a criminal and potential injury/death that could have been caused by the stolen firearms. At least they learned their lesson after the fact !

no one should take a job lightly, but in the current hiring economy, if i were him. i'd quit now. maybe he's got a family to support or some condition that'd make finding another job hard, wouldn't hold it against him if he stayed.
this is also more reason not to take business there, they are wishy washy.

You apparently have no clue how unions work. I’m guessing you prescribe to the notion that unions must have an adversarial relationship with employers and all they do is eat lobster and caviar.

There is no thought that a union protected employee's employer wouldn’t pull this bull shit in the first place??

Good for this employee getting his job back, but his employer apparently thought they could get away with firing this person.

What happens if the employer isn’t selling guns, but is a hardware store selling hammers. A “customer” runs Attempting to steal a hammer. Employee tackles but gets fired. Will this employee get his job back without a union in exactly the same situation? Why...don’t we always make the case hammers are just as dangerous as guns? More people are killed with blunt force objects than by guns.
