    Default Had a ND today.

I am posting this here so others can learn from my mistake. first, i am lucky all the other rules of gun safty kept me out of any serious bodily harm. i had just got back to my house after going to the gun shop and trading in my glock 23 for a new 19. my glock 23 has always been my carry gun and i was planning to carry the 19. so i loaded up the mag and chambered a round. the problem came when i decided to carry the shield i also got today instead of the glock. i always drop the mag and check clear, but for some reason i didnt this time. i wanted to see the difference in trigger pull between my modified 23 and the factory 19. so i aimed in a safe direction while seated at my workbench and pulled the trigger. sending a hornady 124gr xtp hollow point through my keyboard where it lodged into a stud on my workbench top. hindsight is always 20/20. but i can tell you, nothing gives you more clarity on always following th 4 rules no matter what, then experincing a ND. Thank god nobody was hurt, with the exception of my pride, and my keyboard.

Thanks for sharing. Luckily no one got hurt. I know it’s probably hard to share the story, but sharing stories like yours reminds us all, never get complacent.

There have been times when I've wanted to shoot my computer too, but I would have aimed for the screen! Looks like the ND gave you the proper scare it should have, and hyper due diligence is the new order of the day. Consider yourself lucky.

You should frame the bullet and hang it on your wall as a daily reminder.
You may find it beneficial to ritualize your handling and adding a step to your methodology.
I am glad you and those around you are ok.
A good teaching lesson, thanks for posting.

This is a good reason to get one of those gunsmith type bullet traps. It provides a truly safe direction. Glad you didn't get hurt.

Must have been a 9mm. If it was a 45 that keyboard and desk would have been incinerated and a kid in China would have gotten shot in the foot from the bullet coming out of the ground.
Glad to hear that you're okay though, and that no one was hurt otherwise. I always hear that its not a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN for most people, and it reiterates the importance of following the 4 rules. I bet it'll serve you as a good reminder for a long time, and I'm glad when people post these stories for others to hear so it can serve as a reminder to us all.

Also, you should send that keyboard back for a replacement. That one looks defective.

No lid and very little mess. I have seen guys fire .357 magnum point blank with very little penetration into the bucket.

I’m glad your carelessness did not injure or kill anyone.
