Depriming brass
What do you use for depriming brass?
Do you just deprime when you resize or do you deprime first, then clean, then resize using a "universal" depriming tool (like the Lee depriming die, or the Harveys hand held deprimer)?
Has anyone who deprimes before cleaning/resizing used the Harvey depriming tool? Looks kinda like the Lee and RCBS hand primer. https://harveydeprimer.com/Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: Depriming brass
I always clean first then size/deprime. I use a rcbs (rock chucker )size/deprimer for the 50.
and a dillon XL650 for handgun brass.

Re: Depriming brass
Clean first, then deprime/resize die (Lee). For me, new primer is also seated during this step.

Re: Depriming brass
For rifle, i deprime first with a lee decapping die, then tumble in walnut media with a bit of liquid polish mixed in.
With pistol i just clean, then size/ deprime

Re: Depriming brass
If dry tumbling I clean first then size/deprime.
If Wet tumbling I deprime with a modified lee universal decapper, then wet tumble, then size.
I modded my lee die to accept a rcbs decapper stem and pins. Best of both worlds. If it dosen't slip out the RCBS pin is cheaper to change than the Lee pin.www.Steelvalleycasting.com is your new home for coated bullets and custom ammo.

Re: Depriming brass
Like others I just clean then deprime/resize at the same time. I use a lee hand press and do it in front of the TV.
I do have a primer pocket cleaner if I think it looks like it needs attention. They never do though and I've never had trouble seating a new primer or a problem with any ammo.
This is all just range ammo.

Re: Depriming brass
This tool works well for .577/450 Martini Henry brass. Yeah, I know, so does a set of Lee dies, but I just wanted to replicate the process from 140-150 years ago...

Re: Depriming brass
For me, with pretty low volumes of rifle loading:
Deprime with a universal deprimer on a hand press
Clean in a wet tumbler
Lubricate and resize
Clean off the lube in a dry tumbler.
Prime and load
Pistol rounds are on a progressive machine so I deprime and size together. Then wet tumble. Then run them through the press and load them.

Re: Depriming brass
I've been using that Frankford Arsenal hand tool recently to deprime and it works pretty good.
