Default Is it common to TAX the PICS call?

I wont name the shop at this time as I am unsure if this is common practice,
And I will tell you I must be an idiot if I never noticed before,
I stopped at a small shop and saw a Makarov which was priced right so I went ahead and bought it,
    Never used this shop before,
Tonight while doing my paperwork and logging the gun in to my files I noticed that the PICS call was $5.00 which is fine,
But I also noticed that it was TAXED along with the firearm at the 7% we pay here in PA,
Its striking my ODD that I would be taxed on this CALL.
What can you tell me about this?

I checked some of my transactions and it appears that some shops do and some don’t.
Also we don’t pay 7% tax here in PA, but you do in Philly.

Not normal and honestly a cheap practice by the shop involved. Tax should be on the firearm price only.

Well, considering this state charges tax on shipping costs, it wouldn't surprise me to find out the PICS call is supposed to be taxed.

    Phila is actually 8%,
OK I just looked up, 6% in the rest of PA,

Im thinking that its just not right to TAX the PICS charge,
    While its not a lot,
    I feel its not right,

PA sales tax is extremely complicated. The only person who is likely to be able to answer accurately is someone in the business.
It doesn't matter what anyone THINKS should and shouldn't be taxed - there are books worth of info on what is taxable.

I just posted this in another thread.
Mowing lawn - collect sales tax
Trimming shrubs - no sales tax
Spring/fall cleanup - no sales tax
Snow removal - no sales tax
Trimming shrubs IN CONJUNCTION with mowing lawn - collect sales tax on entire amount

I have no idea what the answer to your question is, but it may not be as cut and dry as you would think.

Pics is $3, and $2 tax for sale of a firearm so the tax shouldn't be taxed.

But what if you buy a gun AND get your lawn mowed in the same transaction?

Another FFL here on the forum got me straightened out after I misinterpreted the guidance from the Dept of revenue.

Bottom line is = PICS is untaxed.

As EM pointed out its incredibly confusing and my hunch is that the tax is taken out by mistake and not a intentional action. I am guilty myself until I was schooled.

    Its .18 on $3

I would share my follow up with the lady that i spoke with @ Dept of Rev. But my landline is down and i have to use my cell currently to surf the webs
