Default Semi Auto Russian AK 47 Type III

My son Tom bought this AK47 from a local auction.

Here is a My Guns Built Russian AK47 Type III Semi auto rifle. It was built on an All Matching Russian AK47 Parts Kit with a date code of 1960. The forged receiver was rewelded back together. The front and rear sections of this forged AK47 receiver are original, a new middle section was welded in between. There are many proof marks all over this weapon and all serial numbers match. It has it's original chrome lined barrel. I have been told that very few All Matching Russian AK47 Parts Kits were imported into the USA and that they came from captured weapons in the Middle East.

The builder's name is Matt Yeamans and he owns My Guns

Matt posts on ak forums as Turbothis. By all accounts he does good work. However, to my knowledge the Russians were not manufacturing type 3 milled AKs in 1960. Maybe contact Matt for more info about the build.

I have never personally heard of any rewelded type 3 Russians, nor factory type 3 Russian barrels.

Nice looking rifle. Thanks for sharing.

That date code is on the trunnion and matches engravings. The serial number ends with an M dating it to 1960. Reading several Posts on the Net it seams the Russians built their remaining stock of receivers into 1960. That would make sense.

The furniture is nice. So are the Bakelite magazines.

OK - you have a three position selector. Did the manufacturer skip the middle (Full Auto) position or does it fire semi-auto in both positions?
