Re: Another AK thread..
WASR is about the best value. Standard AKM (except for no dimples) right out of the box that functions well. Fit and finish are acceptable, but don't expect high end. If you like a more classic look, get a cheap Romanian laminate stock set to replace the light colored wood. I would buy from Atlantic. Excellent reputation.

VEPR's and Saiga's are nice, but require time and money to convert to a typical AKM configuration. A few years ago, that was reasonable when the rifles were $350-$500. Today, you'll be in Arsenal price territory when your done.
Like others mentioned, keep a look out for lightly used. MAK 90 or Romanian SAR 1. The SAR is neutered like the MAK, but is cheaper to 'defang' than the MAK. They can be found for around $600-$650. Look here, AK Files, The AK Forum, and... ar15.com.

I think I’ll just go with a Wasr. Yea no dimples but I think I can get over that. By the looks of it taking the hand guard and stock off to refinish it to a deeper color looks simple. They are also more reasonable price wise.
There just seems to be different Wasr.
Wasr 10
Wasr 10/63
Gp Wasr 10
I don’t understand the difference. Is it just because of date manufacture? Any real difference or ones to stay away from. Or are they the same thing.
I read some where that you can tell the date of manufacture by the last number of the serial number but don’t know if this holds true or not.

Re: Another AK thread..
Okay, I bought an AK today. Brought it home. Opened the box and removed everything from it to clean it. I then found this hiding in the box more of less
No idea what is it, I know it’s probably to something I just don’t know what. It’s my first AK.

Hard to see the picture but I'm thinking that's the cleaning kit. It goes in a trapdoor in the butt stock. Your rifle may or may not have the trapdoor. Open the lid and there's a few little cleaning tools in there.
