Re: Anthony Arms' Bargain Table Not Such a Bargain
It really boil downs to the guys working there that day. This is true a lot. But there has been times when I have been ignored even when there was more employees then customers. Same with other people I know have experienced this.
I have gotten lucky a few times though. I have had a different experience almost every time going in there if feels.

I'm not going to name names right now but I have seen this in my area as well. Now, they don't need to act like used car salesmen but how long does it take long to acknowledge your presence and let you know that they'll be with you and/or say, "Hi, is there anything in particular that you are looking for?"

Re: Anthony Arms' Bargain Table Not Such a Bargain
Here in southwest PA, we have a lot of gun shops, but very few are worth even going into.
Most times you are better off just going to Grice's when they first open and be done with it, if you're after one of the more popular guns of the month.

Re: Anthony Arms' Bargain Table Not Such a Bargain
I have experienced similar changes in one of my local shops. They were great to deal with when the owners ran the shop on the sales floor and we, the customers, dealt directly with them. It was the best shop in montgomery county. I did all my transactions through them. I made sure that any deal I did with a private person went through them so that I could introduce the shop to others.
Then they moved, got bigger and hired a manager to handle the store. Everything quickly became black and white, no personal attention and no “Special treatment” for older customers. Infact The couple of times I dealt directly with manager I felt that I was cheated. That would have never happened before.
I understand the reason behind the move but perhaps a better , more personable manager would have been better. I have not been at that shop for several years now and I miss the old shop. The sales people laughed more and so did their customers.
They are still a very successfull shop for what I hear, so I wish them even more prosperity in the future.E FLUCTIBUS IRRUIT IN HOSTEM. AECIDAE TELO IACET LIBATIS.

Re: Anthony Arms' Bargain Table Not Such a Bargain
I was in both of these shops in the last week and had "meh" experiences. I was in Ace at roughly 17:30 on thursday to buy some ammo, walked in, said "hi" to the clerk, he didn't respond. Walk to the ammo rack to grab what i need, then browse. In that time the guy at the gunsmith counter was on the phone, fine. The other three clerks were standing around the knife case trying to goad a kid (20, 22 ish) into putting a $120 knife on layaway.
One finally acknowledges me, and I ring out. If I hadn't have been there for a relatively hard to find ammo I would have walked out, but I bought one box instead of 5. As I walked out, so did the kid - not having put the knife on layaway.
At Anthony Arms they actually paid attention to me, which from my experience if you're there to buy and it looks like it, they'll focus on you.
"I need some FMJ .38"
"You need to go to the range, that's where that kind of ammo is."
"oh, ok."
*walks to range*
"I need two boxes of .38 special, cheapest FMJ you have."
"You mean .380?"
*Quizzical look*
"I need 100 rounds of 38 special."
"Are you sure you don't mean .380?"
".38 special. Rimmed revolver cartridge. Introduced in 1899. Open cylinder. Put it in. Pull trigger, rotate, bang. .38 special"
To be fair, I'm not of the revolver demographic, but give the customer what they ask for. If I buy the wrong thing, that's on me. . .

I live an easy 10 minute drive away from Anthony Arms and drive to shops in McMurray or Oakdale instead.
