I would only deploy lethal force if I reasonably believe that not doing so would mean serious harm or death upon myself, or others, would result from the encounter.

This goes for Police too. A Law Enforcement Officer who points a firearm at a person who is not immediately risking harm or is not visibly armed is not properly trained.
Had a police officer pull a weapon on me, point blank range, at a road block. He came out of no where, but then again, it was ~2 am and foggy.

There was a similar vehicle match, while looking for a kidnapping suspect.

Funny thing, when I was a bank robbery suspect, neither the FBI agent or EPD officer pulled their weapon. But that was at around 10:30 am, and sunny.

Oh, and I forgot to add; there were no dogs present in either situation.

If I could not escape. Aside that I agree.

Did they also have their finger on the trigger, drawing up the slack? I wouldn't be surprised.

Damn amateurs..... playing soldier on the streets. They can get away with it unless there are witnesses. Sounds like you didn't have any witnesses. Glad that this person didn't fire on you.

Normally when I encountered police they had their hands on their firearms but kept them holstered. I appreciated their professionalism and respected them for it.

The bold is not what the rule says and you should retrain.

This. The idea that you can't "cover" a threat without firing is preposterous. We're all dumber for having heard the idea.

I never ever point a firearm at something I don't intend to hit. Too many things can go wrong. I posted Cooper's Rules above. If you don't want to follow them suit yourself.
I bet you never had to deploy your firearm defensively. I have.

When I pointed at his feet, he continued to advance. It wasn't until I leveled the muzzle on his chest that he had a change of heart.

By your advice, I had to then pull the trigger.

Fortunately, I knew better and didn't have to needlessly take a life based on this terrible advice, but I WAS willing to destroy the target if he continued to advance. Well within Cooper's rules.

You deesecalate while preparing to brandish the firearm. They might well be commenting on her. Maybe they're messing with you. If she's small enough to pick up you do so, in your non-dominant arm. You move away from them without inspiring their predatory instincts. Smile but not too much. If you nod to them this sometimes is enough. "Recognize".

Treat them like human beings, cause they are human beings. They're a small clique of men who have been forged by El Salvador's civil war. They are warriors for their people. Recognize and steer clear of them.

A concealed firearm is no substitute for street smarts. I don't have much of those but I have a bit.

Some of us actually know the difference.

I was once upon a time taught, if you aim the weapon, you have to fire it.

Well, one has to glean the wheat from the chaff, and this notion was dismissed.
