obtain a license to carry a firearm from your county sheriff

Depends on how you go, and where you are going. If you are going to the panhandle, you'll have to go through Maryland. You'll have to lock up guns in trunk. If going to Morgantown, or central/western WVA, no problem. Reciprocal with PA. if you have LTCF.

    Need more info.

My apologies to all for the sparce info. Actually going thru Maryland (about 10 miles), then Va and into WVA.

Waiting for call back from Sheriff's dept, (per above suggestion).

Good thing I'm not planning on carrying throughout trip, so locking up firearms is not a problem.

Thanks for all your replies !

WV is Constitutional Carry. No permit needed.

I-81 ? If so it is actually 12 miles in MD then WV, then maybe VA depending where you are headed.

Unload the weapon, secure it separate from the ammo, you may want to unload magazines too (not sure law is clear on this), and don’t stop in MD. Reverse sometime after you leave MD.

Do not go through maryland, locked up and legal or not.

Go far enough west to go straight into west VA, or cut over to Ohio and down.
