First Time Tips
Hello everyone,
I am interested in getting out this season. My goal is to hunt for deer for meat, but I will probably start with small game or waterfowl. Please share tips etc for new hunters in PA. I am getting a late start as I'm in my twenties and have no friends or family that have hunted.
Thanks!

Re: First Time Tips
I don't think there's much that can be 'splained on paper, it's more like going and doing it with someone who already knows how. Basically it's sneak up on the prey and shoot it or hide near where you expect it to come through and shoot it if and when it comes through. Make sure you have no people on the other side of where you're shooting and make sure you have a clear shot at the proper prey. Don't shoot the wrong animal. I hear that Dick Cheney is still looking for a hunting partner.

Re: First Time Tips
Grim Douglas,
I would be happy to help anyway I could. I was a late in life hunter and had excellent mentors help me. I would certainly be willing to help in anyway I could. It would be a lot of fun to help someone get their first deer. Send me a PM if you want contact info and have questions. First day to purchase your hunting license is June 18th. No need to rush, just letting you know. And I agree that a great first step would be to sign up and take a PA Game Commish. hunter safety course.

Re: First Time Tips
A Hunter Safety Course is required to obtain a hunting license. It's also a good start on your hunting adventure.

Basic Hunter-Trapper Education (HTE)
By law, all first-time hunters and trappers, regardless of age, must successfully complete Hunter-Trapper Education training before they can buy a Pennsylvania hunting or trapping license. A training certificate, which is recognized throughout North America, is awarded when you pass a test at the end of the course. You must be at least 11 years old to enroll in a class. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. The training is designed to produce safe, responsible, knowledgeable and involved participants. The results of this program are remarkable. Since 1959, hunting-related shooting incidents have declined drastically. Hunting is safe and getting safer, thanks to hunter education.
