Re: Thinking about a Redhawk 44
It is, that is why I went with the 5.5" when I bought mine. I figure it is a good compromise between a 4" and a 7.5" but without losing too much velocity and sight radius to be decent for hunting. It handles full power loads well too. I have the rubber hogue Bantam grip on mine that comes with the regular 4" model. My dad has a 7.5" which I shoot from time to time, it is nicer to shoot with full power loads but like I said the 5.5" handles them fine.

Re: Thinking about a Redhawk 44
I have a few 7 1/2" Redhawks in a few different calibers and I switched out the original wood grips for the very comfortable and perfect fit to my hand Rubber Pachmayer grips. When I am taking photos of the revolvers or if I would ever sell them, I would put the wood grips back on because wood grips look better, but the rubber grips help the revolver function better in my hands. I would feel comfortable hunting out to 50 yards with open sights. I also put a fiber optic front sight on them. I like the 7 1/2" for the longer sight radius.
