Default Re: Moving to PA from NJ / Inherited guns in NJ

I agree moving to PA first is the best move. Getting NJ pistol permits is a huge hassle, with fingerprints, letters from friends, the wait, etc. and that's with a friendly police department.
But there is another factor. The new NJ gun bill might make some of the mags illegal if they are >10 rds.

    https://www.nraila.org/articles/2018...o-the-governor
    http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2018/Bi...500/102_I1.HTM
The bill’s provisions are effective immediately, but allow for a 180-day grace period to transfer, render inoperable, or voluntarily surrender a semi-automatic rifle or magazine that will be unlawful under the bill.
You will need to know the sizes of the magazines, if any, in case they are old enough to predate the "large mag" restriction. If you do the transfer in NJ and any mags are >15 rds, that's a no no. Even if your mom is caught traveling in NJ with them in the car she could get jammed up.
To be totally above board, If you have >15 rd mags I think you would have to destroy them or turn them in (which is very dicey depending on where you do it) and buy new ones in PA.
You should check on when the Gov is signing the 10 rd mag limit bill if he has not done so already. It takes effect immediately upon signing but you would have 6 months to dispose of the offending mags. (A transfer to a PA resident would count as disposing so you would have to move within 180 days)

Yes, NJ sucks but this is all supposing some of the mags fall into the 10-15 rd category which might make this whole post moot.

I hope you make the move. I made the same move and have never had a second thought about it. The PRNJ is hell bent on driving hard working, Constitutional respecting, citizens out of that socialist quagmire. You are welcome in PA. Freedom starts here.

I think the max is 8 rounds, the rest are revolvers, so I should be good.

I talked to my fiancee about it (she actually suggested it to me before for other reasons), the move is going to happen, just a matter of a year or so, I'm really excited to move back to America.

    Snip...
    LOL!

    You know what's funny?
There's more paperwork required for my dogs than there is for my guns/mags/ammo.
(dog license and rabies vaccine are req. by law)

The government has no record of anything you see here aside from the dog.
    All good and legal.

    50 round drum in a 22LR AR15 - just because.

I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

As a guy who lives in a state where you need to file for a permit and undergo a background check and a 30+ day wait just to buy a BB gun, I am amazed by this

You will be required by PA law to dispose of any crippled capacity magazines. And then to buy and own a AR-15, AK-47, or some other serviceable rifle and a minimum of (4) 30rd magazines( or 6 20rd mags for .308cal rifles).

In PA, if you only have four 30 rd mags, then you are just a poser.

The minimum of (4) 30rd mags is due to the defunct Militia Acts 1792(but still acknowledged under the US v Miller 1939 ruling) requiring the keeping of 120rds of ammo at ready.
