Yeah, but the children.........nothing else matters.

More children die every year by neglectful parents leaving their kids in hot vehicles than from mass shootings. Another statically insignificant percentage, yet legislators want to force auto manufacturers into adding additional safety measures to somehow negate the effect of neglectful parents.

Significantly more children die in pools every year. Despite not having a Constitutionally-protected right to possess pools, I've yet to see one person calling for banning them.

It's not about the children, it's not about saving lives - it's about advancing an uninformed and poorly considered agenda in the face of extraordinarily soft times. Things have been going well here in the US for so long that way too many people believe it will continue forever. I'd love for them to be right, but they're not. Consider, for example, how we are often referred to as a "young" country - "only" ~240 years old. Very true. But politically speaking, we are a very old country. We've had the same governmental system for over two centuries. Compare that to the "old" countries in Europe. Almost every single one has had multiple radical shifts in their political structure over the same time period. Think about it - when we rebelled, both England and France were monarchies. Seventy years ago, the Nazis were in charge of Germany and fascists controlled Italy. All have since moved to varying forms of representative democracies.

What's the point of this? When looking at things from a historical perspective, we are way overdue to see radical shifts in our government - along with the instability that comes during the periods of transition. In other words, history suggests that this gravy train is overdue for derailment.

I've seen her before. She's smart and a cute young woman. I'd be proud if she were my daughter.
