My ex picked a real nice .38 Smith and Wesson air weight snubby revolver for her first carry gun. It was great. She shot about a box of shells through it and couldn't hit a barn with it at 7 yards. She never shot it again.That gun was way worse to shoot than my .44 mag with +P loads.

Snubby revolvers are a terrible idea for a new shooter. If she wants one, make her shoot one first before you buy.

Yeah, an Airweight with +P 38 does feel like I'm beating the palm of my hand. It's brutal. Only one worse is a P-64 with some of the heavier rounds, like the Prvi Partisan 9mm Makarov.

I have a few SP101s in 357 mag. Very well behaved with 38 +P.

Take her to a range with rentals. Let her try them.

Ask her to consider her choices and that you all will come back very soon to try them again. Do not tolerate pushy salespeople. Insure that she realizes that this is not a casual decision.

See what agrees with her best. Make it clear that she can always get something else. This isn't like selecting a husband more like selecting an automobile.

Insure that she practices a lot. How to fire. When to fire. Arrange for professional training. Do not come with her. Let her follow the trainer's advice exactly. Do not contradict him or her, as this will confuse her.

If you're lucky she already has a lot of firearm exposure. In which case, just bring a credit card or your checkbook.

If you have kids get "his" and "hers" storage boxes for them. So that she can keep them away from inquisitive hands.

When she realizes that you have it "covered" this will help ease her into The Life.
