Fallen leader you are shopping for a gun that may save your life. Buy the best, buy a Glock . I recommend a Glock 19x. You get the best of the 17 and 19 all in one package.
Aggies Coach Really ??? Take off the tin foil bro.

the only thing i like about glocks is they are essentially the honda's of the gun world. you can find parts just lying on the side of the road because they are so abundant.
however, they are ugly and square and mainstream.
...those really aren't disqualifying factors. and i've only ever fired my 9mm keltec. (and i suck beyond 10ft) 3"brl 8.5lb trigger. not to mention the shooter aint so good.

i've been eyeing that HK VP9 and the walther's, are you leaning toward the Edit:walther because you don't have one in your collection or because you wish you had bought that instead?
I am a hammer fired guy. I prefer hammer fired trigger feel, and as an engineer, I like seeing stuff work. I also like being able to keep my thumb on the hammer when holstering as an extra layer of safety.

That being said, for the VP9 vs PPQ, I thought the trigger was better on the PPQ. I also felt as if the VP9 was over hyped. And this is coming from a HK fan (60% of my handguns are HK). Here's how I see the breakdown between the two...

    VP9:
+Better, more customizable grip (you can change the back strap AND the sides)
    +Looks nicer
+No need to pull trigger to disassemble
+"Charging supports" are actually kinda nice to have
    +A bit nicer build quality

    PPQ:
    +Better trigger
+Hipster points for buying a gun most people don't have

If you are used to and prefer the American style push button magazine release, the PPQ M2 is probably the one you want to look at, between the two.

Me? I PREFER the German style "paddle" magazine release. Fully, truly ambidextrous, I can safely hit it with my trigger finger with fast, and hard to actuate accidentally. Thus, I prefer the VP9 or PPQ M1 over the PPQ M2.

Glock 19, S&W M&P 2.0 compact/full size, or the CA P10C would be in my wheel house for a work/duty pistol. All are very affordable the M&P and the CZ p10 more so then the Glock. The Glock and the M&P have a ton of after market support, and easier found and affordable magazines.

There's no reason to reinvent the wheel here.
