Incorrect, there are number of large city LE agencies in the US who carry the M&P 9/.40 and there is a large amount world wide both LE and Military.

Belgium: 8,000 M&P9 pistols were purchased by the Federal Police in 2011, replacing the Browning Hi-Power. Encountering jamming problems, Belgian police decided to send back 6000 pistols to S&W for repair.[18][19]

I realize this but also the fact that fleet guns are not always the best. example NYPD 12lb triggers.
they are mainstream models that meet set needs at the best price sometimes with the best salesman.
..those really aren't disqualifying factors.
edit: wanting to know what to rent and making a penis joke just rekindled one of the great wars, glad I narrowed it to 9mm because that's what I stock. don't wanna rekindle the great caliber war of the 20th century
LAPD phasing out due to operational concerns? holds more than 10 rnd and has detachable magazine?Last edited by fallenleader; May 22nd, 2018 at 10:41 PM.

I bust on the M&P. They chose the name and pushed it into the market. If they called it the SEALS edition, I doubt SEALS would have carried it. While PD's do carry the M&P they don't hold a candle to Glock. I do like the AR's Smith makes but not the pistols. When we took a look at them they failed our inspection. We had several issues with them and the biggest was the cheap plastic and some other features. The Glock won hands down.

All my defensive pistols are Glocks and only a Shield which is excellent. The 2.0 solved every issue the 1st gen had.

Too bad your budget is so low or maybe there's just something wrong with me but I just love the shit out of my P7, it's one piece that I would own multiple versions of if I ever strike it rich.

that looks interesting but falls squarely in the "manufacturer fitted parts" category. a gun with internals described as a watch, lol.
one requirement is that I be able to order any part I wish and work on the gun if needed. I will send it in for service if I decide to, not because they refuse to sell me a hammer or pin.
next weekend or maybe Tuesday I will be able to go on a rental spree at the range, when I get home maybe I'll post a list of suggestions that are available as rental. There is no way to make it out alive...

Glock.
I was never a Glock guy until I got mine.
Lots of guns will do the job, but if you want a practical recommendation for a duty pistol, get a Glock.

At first I didn’t think this thread applied to me but then I realized it was about guns...
I don’t know how many others said Glock so I’ll be the 14th or 23rd person to say Glock.
As for which Glock 17 vs 19 vs 19x and Gen 3 vs 4 vs 5, you are gonna have to go fondle some to see what you like best. Personally I like the Gen 4s the best, 17 vs 19 I’m still undecided.
Edit: I’ll also add that Glock would be the military’s sidearm if the contract didn’t automatically go to the lowest bidder...
