Rattlesnake Hunting
I am getting a rattlesnake permit for this season, does anyone know of any public land that has a good population of rattlesnake? Any tips or advice on hunting them would also be appreciated.

Re: Rattlesnake Hunting
Wear high, thick leather boots. You can come up on them without knowing in tall grass, and brush. A buddy of mine had a vacation home/hunting property in Clinton County, and we'd see a lot of them in the summer. Some were very big.

Re: Rattlesnake Hunting
FWIW- According to the application:
http://www.fishandboat.com/Transact/...e_venomous.pdf
Permittee may only take, kill or possess timber rattlesnakes at least 42 inches in length, which have 21
or more subcaudal scales (see below instructions for determining the length and subcaudal count)
That dissuaded me from ever going snake hunting."It seems that the Constitution is more or less guidelines than actual rules"

Re: Rattlesnake Hunting
I usually just read what other ones post, but this got my attention. I go hunting for them about 2 times a season, some times more. Hunting for them is allowed only north of Rt. 80. How serious are you about hunting them? I"ve taking a couple of people out and showed them the do's and don'ts. If your interested about getting together and talking about them, let me know. Live in the Glenvile area.

Re: Rattlesnake Hunting
My Dad and I used to hunt them allot years ago before all the rules. We would shot a few a year and yes we always ate them. We hunted snakes and trapped snapping turtles and would have wild game cookouts with fish and venison to. Always treated and save the skins theres several around his house and mine.
