Just be careful of ricochet. Most of them are on rocks and close to you... so rock fragments and bullet fragments go in all directions. Boots and chainsaw chaps protect you from bites and fragments

For the audience, rattlesnakes must be captured alive in PA. You must then measure and count the subcaudal scales. The rattler must be at least 42" in length, and have at least 21 subcaudal scales. If it has less than either, it must be released ALIVE.

You cannot kill rattlesnake, even with a permit, until it has been measured and the scales counted - EXCEPT FOR LIFE/LIMB SITUATIONS.

When I lived in Nebraska my dad and I used to go out with a rancher buddy of his and his son hunting rattlesnakes. They would rig up a piece of electrical conduit or some similar pipe with a rope or wire running through it with a loop at the end. You would slip the loop around the snakes head and then pull on the other end of the rope which would hold their head firmly against the bottom of the pipe. Then they could put it into a container. It was sure a lot easier to see them in the open prairie then it would be around here in the rocks in the trees. The only time we really had to watch ourselves was when we were hunting prairie dogs. Most of the shots the dog was standing on its hole. Often times they would either fall down into the hole or run a short distance back into the borough after they were hit. You never stuck your hand in a prairie dog burrow if you couldn’t clearly see into it.

NICE! I'm astonished by how small their heads are given the girth in the middle
