Rattlesnake hunts are pretty popular in the southern portions of the northern tier. Much further north they disappear.

I usually just read what other ones post, but this got my attention. I go hunting for them about 2 times a season, some times more. Hunting for them is allowed only north of Rt. 80. How serious are you about hunting them? I"ve taking a couple of people out and showed them the do's and don'ts. If your interested about getting together and talking about them, let me know. Live in the Glenvile area.

I never have, some times they like to bite themselves, or each other. Even though it could be a dry bite, I never ate one.

My Dad and I used to hunt them allot years ago before all the rules. We would shot a few a year and yes we always ate them. We hunted snakes and trapped snapping turtles and would have wild game cookouts with fish and venison to. Always treated and save the skins theres several around his house and mine.

Not my cup of tea ! But all the ones I've ever seen in the woods in hot weather/summer months were near a water source in rocky areas . I've never seen one just out in the middle of the woods not sayin they aren't there just personal observation .

Good question, back then we never gave it a thought. We did see one bite itself when trying to get it out of the rocks that one we did not eat.

I know of two dens in the Michaud State Forest. The P.O.W. Camp is crawling the bitey little bastards. Grandparents place in Rockland always had a bunch in the rock fence. Their farm in Seneca was a hotbed of copperheads.
