Default Australia can't claim no mass shootings since 1996 anymore

So a guy in Australia murders his wife, daughter and 4 grandkids before calling the cops and killing himself, the first mass shooting in the country since 1996. This is obviously a tragedy and we would consider it as such, I don't know what drives a man to murder his family like that but its safe to say he would have done it whether he had a gun or not. Gun control people not so much, they blame it on Australia's softening gun laws, below are some of the highlights.

"But gun- control experts have been saying for years that Australia’s laws have slowly softened, and they said it was still far too common for Australians to have more than one weapon at home around children. “Like all other jurisdictions across Australia, Western Australia’s gun laws have also been eroded as pro-gun lobby groups continue to place pressure on governments,” said Sam Lee, chairman of Gun Control Australia. “From a gun regulation perspective, this horrific shooting raises many concerns about access to firearms, particularly on rural properties.” Among the ways the regulations in Western Australia have been eroded, critics say: No police checks are required to obtain second or subsequent hunting rifles; firearms safety-training courses are not required; there is no minimum age to obtain a minor’s permit; and there is no limit on the quantity of ammunition that can be purchased at any given time."

None of the gun control rhetoric has anything to do with what happened or stopping it from happening again.
He did it with an ordinary shotgun.
People worldwide do it every day with nothing more than a knife.
No particular type of weapon is needed when someone is determined to commit murder.

Big correction: it's not the first mass shooting since 1996, it's the worst mass shooting since 1996. if you read all the headlines, you'll see they are very careful about that. Why? Because there have been more mass shootings in Australia in the 22 years since the gun ban than there were in the 22 years prior to the gun ban. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...s_in_Australia

They have a much smaller population than us and a fairly homogeneous one at that, yet their ban has done nothing to stop mass killings in general or mass shootings in particular.

I believe Australia defimes a "mass shooting" as 5 or more. This way they can keep their stats low when 2 to 4 people are killed. This is conveniently different from the "not ONE more" ideology and pushes the emotional crisis situation we are all too familiar with here in the States.
