    Default Magpul Handguards?

I’m building a basic AR for plinking. How are the Magpul handguards? Do they heat up quickly? Any issues with reliability?

They are better then the standard handguards and they don't heat up, no problem with them at all. Their stocks slings and mags are nice too.

My experience is the same. Have them on a colt 6920 which was used in an AR class. No issues at all.

I never had a single problem with them, the regular MOE or SL handguards in all lengths. I do like the SLs better because they cover the FSB area. Only downside to the SL is you have to have a round end cap (mid lengths come with triangle caps) and they are more tricky to install. Worth the little extra trouble though IMO. Vurwappenblog (however the hell you spell it) did a review years ago where he melted down and caught fire to a MOE handguard. Took hundreds of rounds of continuous fire to do it. Nothing to be concerned about even for the hard use guy though. They heat soak less quickly than an aluminum rail.

The newer "thin" style ones are very nice. Ive never rapid fired more then 3 mags in a row through my gun but felt no heat. I bought a 300$ VLTOR casv-m for free float my barrel and went back to the mag pull. Feels better in the hand and free floating it made no difference in accuracy on that gun.
