    Question RD 30 red/green dot

I put this red dot on a rifle. My question is when I tried to adjust it, left the right, I kept turning the adjustment screw on the side of it about 2 full turns, nothing happened. I'm just a rank amateur , but I suspect that adjustment is for small changes. Did I mess anything up turning it so far. I'll play with it next week when I'm not so frustrated to see where I went wrong. Thanks Joe

I can try to help you, but I'm going to need some more information.

    What is it mounted on?
    How is it mounted?
What range were you zeroing at?

    1. It's mounted on a Hi-point 9mm carbine. I don't know what the official name of the rail is, but my other optics fit it, so it must be pretty standard.
    2. With 2 little clamps that grab the underside of the tail 7 thghten up with an allen wrench.
    3. I was trying for 15 yrds. It was hitting about 2 ft to the left. I just got a 9mm bore sighter that fits in the chamber. The weather needs to clear up so I can get to the range. I also suspect it will have to have be shimmed or something. Thanks Joe

If you're 2 feet off that close it sounds to me like it's not mounted right. Do you know if the rail and mount are picatinny or weaver? If the dot mount is weaver and the scope is pic it should still work but I've seen people have problems with interfacing between the two.

I'd also look at how the rail is attached to the carbine, if its not tight and straight no optic will work well.

If everything is tight and attached correctly you can just keep adjusting the dot , if you have enough range on the optic you'll get it zeroed eventually, but if you really adjusted 2 full turns and got NO change in POI, then something is really wrong.

Also, it sounds like you're using a pretty low budget dot. For $19.99 off of Amazon, I would expect nothing out of it.

Get yourself a vortex sparc or the likes and then revisit the problem.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

Does the adjustment have clicks or just spin?
Eight clicks could move it one inch at 100 yards depending on the scope.
You need to look at the directions that came with your scope or dot.
Sometimes people get confused on left and right and the bullet hole keeps going further in the wrong direction until it's in the dirt.
The entire problem is they are turning the turret the wrong direction.

    Bolt trick.

Remember you are moving your bullet holes up, down, left and right at the target, not your crosshairs or dot.
I have seen people turn their turret all the way until the stop before and never get on paper.
You can mess some of them up if you turn them way too far in one direction.

Just to add, some of the cheaper Chinese dots get the left and right adjustment backwards. It'll say your turning it to the right when it actually is going left. I've seen it on more than one of them across multiple brands. Get it locked down somehow on a bench and fire a round. Then while looking through it turn the turret until the dot covers the hole you made. This should give a basic zero. If you are turning it and don't see the dot move at all through the optic while it is being held stationary, the turret is probably stripped.
