The one guy was arrested at a major western PA gun show a number of years ago. FOUR months later, he's back at the same gun show as an FFL licensee.

Now what person gets an FFL that fast, from date of application? That's right, no one. But the ATFE greased the skids for this guy's paperwork.

While she was charged with two counts of illegal transfer of Firearms and two counts of selling a firearm without a valid FOID, officials noted at the time she was unlikely to serve jail time despite the four felony charges, though she would likely see “permanent revocation of her FOID card.”
I kinda doubt that's the situation here because of this quote.

The federal firearms charges were dropped and she's not black?

Maybe they thought she's a Mooselimb from her last name.

State and feds can pass any new laws they wish.

I see no reason to comply.

That's possible, but the message being sent to the community is "you can make a lot of money selling guns, and even if you get caught, the penalty isn't so bad".

Compare this to NJ, where people lacking any criminal intent face 5 years in prison for merely possessing a gun that they bought legally.

There has to be a sane middle ground, where criminals with bad intent are punished harshly, while people who just got confused by the many, many laws are corrected and sent on their way. Instead of this, where (apparently) you can get away with anything if you're so deep in crime that you have something to trade, but if your intent is to be law-abiding, then you're low-hanging fruit and you don't know how to play the game and protect yourself from cops, and they crucify you.

Related to this: I tell folks to be wary if any of their friends or acquaintances get arrested for something serious; if they are released and immediately call you up to discuss unlawful acts that you previously committed, or they offer you a shady deal, or they ask you to hold a package for them, assume that there are ATF or FBI or DEA agents all clustered around them, listening in with recorders running.

A lot of people, facing years in jail away from their families, are going to be willing to throw anyone else under the bus to save themselves. Even if they have to create the crime.

Happens all the time. DAs don't want to go to trial. Probation for four felonies?
