    Default Machine gun question. M16 related.

    I just want to make sure that I understand something regarding M16s.

    1) The lower is the registered "machine gun", in most cases, correct?
    2) I know that there are DIAS for converting AR15s to M16s.

    I don't need 1 AND 2 to make an M16, correct?

    Here's what I mean;

    This registered lower is available;

    https://dealernfa.com/shop/brand-new...erfect-p0242a/

    I can buy that following all applicable NFA laws, and then install this, for example;

    https://www.dsarms.com/p-15152-dsa-m...les-apply.aspx

    And have a fully functioning machine gun, correct? The sear is not nor does it need to be registered, from my understanding.

    Thanks for your help.

    Justin

    PS With my recent Sig MCX "Hybrid pistol" purchase, I believe I have everything I need to make an automatic MCX on the above linked lower, hence my questions to make sure I don't run afoul of the Crown.

    Don't know the answer to your question, but if you were to put a bump stock and a binary trigger in, it would extra special gooder.

    Justin I don’t have the answer but I think there’s more to it because of the 25 grand price on an m16.

    On second thought possibly. I saw the price as 2099 for some reason

    Thank you, someone confirmed privately about M16 parts.

    Also, it appears someone beat me to my idea. I forgot to mention that I need the MCX trip lever, which Sig won't sell to civvies, but PMM will.

    I'm now envisioning a suppressed full auto .300 blk SBR MCX.

    Correct. A Registered Receiver does not need a registered auto sear to be legal, just a standard M16 FCG (or the Geissele SSF). An RDIAS goes in a regular ar15 lower (no hole) with a low shelf.

    I have heard of some conversion guns that were improperly done where an original M16 sear was registered and installed in an M16 lower (with the hole drilled) that was not itself registered. These guns can never have the sear removed/replaced since the sear is then the registered part and separation would result in having two machine guns, one of which is unregistered (receiver). But that doesn't apply here, so no worries. Just trying to be complete.

    Edit: Guess I was too slow.

    If you can afford it it really is an investment. Last time I checked a full auto mp5 was 27k. They’ve gone up ten grand. I looked at mac10s and they were five. Now they are 7500 and up. They are only going to gain value unless they repeal the nfa.
    We know that won’t happen

    Yeah I work with a guy that build a substantial nest egg for himself with machine guns. Most of his were bought pre-86 just out of collector curiosity, and turned out to be quite the investment.

    I am not a MG guy so take this for what it is worth......... A drop in auto sear DIAS (just the one part) is registered as a MG and can be used with some AR-15 receivers and an some M-16 parts make it full auto.

    The receiver you posted is an M-16 receiver with the hole for a standard full auto sear (the small hole above the safety). You just need the standard m-16 internals to make it work. You wouldn't need a separate DIAS.

    I don't know enough but I think that MG part set is for full auto only. You should look into one that has a 3 shot burst option. That is what the military uses now.

    I was hoping to do 3 shot burst, but I have to ensure the trigger will work with the MCX bolt carrier group. Still more research to do.
