Re: The Second Amendment Annotated
The "right" to self defense is a right people are born with, not some privilege granted by a king or a government.
The second amendment does not give that right to self defense, it just enumerates it.
For people to live in a state of freedom they must be armed. ( the second translated into the modern language)

Re: The Second Amendment Annotated
Well it seems that "Civilized society" keeps trying to limit my ability to defend myself.

Re: The Second Amendment Annotated
One cannot "recognize" something that does not pre-exist.
The part about the militia is more of an explanation as to why, not a requirement for the right. Take away militias, and you still retain the individual right. The second is an enumeration or recognition of the natural inclination or "instinct" to defend oneself. Even lowly insects do this. Some could say, "Even the lowliest of insects, man, should be allowed to do so!"It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Re: The Second Amendment Annotated
The US Constitution says I have a reason to own of these weapons and that's good enough for me. If you are in the business of depriving people their Constitutional rights and you have taken the oath to uphold the Constitution you are a traitor.
