I have a PP in 7.65, a PPK in 9 Kurtz (from before 1935 so it has the heel mag release) and a PPK/S in 9 Kurtz. All work well and no slide bite. Just check your grip before pulling the trigger. Dave_n

Get the Beretta first (cheaper ammo, less chance of "snake bite" from the side), and the Walther (or a clone) later. The FEG suggested by another respondent is a great idea, but even better may be one of the .380 FEG's imported by KBI in the 90's.

I’ve owned many PPK versions. A few S&W’s and a w. German 7.65mm. They are nice guns. However, for the size and weight, it makes zero sense to carry one. You can’t even argue that the .380 has less recoil b/c the blow back system is very snappy and actually stings.

I have a Beretta pX4 SUBcompact .40 S&W. It’s an amazing little piece of modern machinery. It’s roughly the same size or smaller than the ppk and it offers 10 rounds of .40. I pocket carry this with ease. 10 rounds of full power .40 in a pocket!
    I’d look for a subcompact Px4.

I really like a cz82 or 83. If you can find a non surplus one the finish is very nice, and they shoot very nice.

Be aware that the compact and subcompact PX4s are on completely different operating mechanisms. The compact/carry/full size have their claimed soft shooting, rotating barrel. The subcompact is a Browning-action drop barrel that's is in nearly every other pistol out there.

PPK would be a fun range gun, but ergos, weight, reliability, etc. doesn't make it practical for much else.

Let's not forget that the Walthers and clones tend towards the thin side. Sometimes weight and size are tolerable when width is lesser. The Px4 is a chubby little puppy.

Also on the plus side for the Walther vs other .380 pistols (but not vs the Px4) is mass and sight radius. The mass helps to control the recoil on the snappy nature of the blowback system common to most .380 pistols. It has actual sights and a little bit more in the sight radius - still not a target pistol but more useful that the sights on the belly guns to which we've become accustomed.
