Default Finding references for LTCF when new to shooting

I'm trying to get into handgun shooting primarily as a sport and have only short handguns/long guns a handful of times in my life.

I'd like to get a License to Carry (LTCF) as I heard it makes life a lot easier in general when transporting a gun. I need to provide references to do so in my local county (Allegheny), but my circle of friends and coworkers is strongly anti-gun. I don't want to get into politics with them or make my relationship with them weird (especially with coworkers); I just want to shoot regularly as a sport... so how can I find people willing to be a reference? I'm a pretty quiet person, so my network isn't exactly huge to begin with.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Welcome.

I've never heard of anyone having their references contacted.
(aside from the sheriff across the state who asked for more officers/money to waste time doing just that)

Anyone in Allegheny county ever had a reference contacted?
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Still, wouldn't it be even worse if for whatever reason the police did contact the references and then they find out I listed them as references without even asking them first?

Not trying to be a dick here, but it seems like maybe you should try to make some new friends who share your interests.

Go to your local gun shop and strike up a conversation about your interests in shooting a say you need to find references and how your friends might not be right picks. Bet any folks you talk to there could help.

Also your references do not have to be residents in your same county, they just can't be family members I believe.

Hopefully that opens up your options. Old buddies who live across the country suffice. As Empty said, they most likely will not be contacted anyway so don't get stuck on this part of the application.

I'm pretty sure that at a shooting range I can make new friends who approve of shooting as a sport. I hope you can see the problem here...

LTCF is not required to get to the range. No reason to wait, go have fun.

    Am I missing something?
