Thanks for that. I will pass the info along and see if I can get him to go. Do you happen to know if you can see Trop's rental list online? I didn't see it, but I could have missed it.

^^^^This. I've had one for many years, the lightweight version, CZ-75D PCR.

Whatever he chooses, I would highly suggest some type of one day handgun manipulation class covering the fundamentals.

safety, stance, grip, loading, tac and speed, unloading, chamber checking, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press to reset, follow through, presenting the firearm correctly, reholstering. Nothing to it .

Actually, I would recommend a 3 day class, but generally if you are born with a dick, you automatically know almost everything there is to know about how to shoot and there is no need.

My two friends just took a one day class on Sunday. They are lifelong shooters.
My one friend was using a S&W 3913.
You just about have to learn how to shoot 2 guns ( see Hawks post).

One struggled with the S&W and wants to try a Glock.

Both were blown away by how much info you need to process to present and make hits.

Back to the OP and Dad's choice.
I am yet another to suggest renting guns, going to a group shoot to try a few out or at least fondling them at a LGS to see what he seems to like.

Let us know what he ends up with and how he made his choice.
Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

I’d look at the CZ P07 if I were in the market for a g19 sized da/da. I have the P09 and it’s outstanding.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

A carry gun with a red dot, hmmm. Straight of the box those new sig p250s can be purchased with a sig Romeo red dot cut into the slide and they are pretty affordable. Certainly not a target pistol though

I agree 100% about the class, and I actually just took one myself. However, I can tell you with near-certainty that he will not do that. Especially since he's not looking for a carry gun anymore.

He's actually not looking for a carry pistol at all anymore. Now he just wants a gun to target shoot.

He seems to have decided on the S&W performance center M&P9L. He held one at Cabelas and liked it.

It's official. He ordered the M&P9L. Thanks to everyone for offering suggestions and advice. He'll just have to shoot it and see if he likes it I suppose.
