    Default Remington 03-A3

cleaning out the safe an unearthed this 03-A3. super clean barrel with crisp rifling. barrel measures 19.5'' and over all its measures 38 1/4'' .. whoever cut it down did an excellent job. almost looks like it rolled off of the assembly line. I dont know much about Springfields so what exactly am i looking at here? from what i gather its a late model turned sporter but i want to make sure before i put it back away. serial # is in the 3.5 million range.

Very nice looking gun. I agree it was done well, and hard to tell it is not original. Are there any markings visible on the barrel?

Looks like someone turned a perfectly good 03A3 into a "Tanker".

I'd be curious if the SN is the same on all the parts? If not, then not much of a big deal, if so, ouch!

On the M14 forum there are a few new in the wrap 1903A3 Remington barrels for sale at $250.00 each. They are dated 06-44.

i dont think the US military serial numbered each part of their rifles to match the barrel. im looking into it now. regardless, the barrel is the only part on my rifle that is serial numbered.

The receiver should be the serial numbered part. Unlike the Germans who touched almost every part, the US did not number most of the parts.

Brain fart! Meant to say check for "correctness" (stamp on parts).
I used to own a correct 1943 Remington 03A3. Wish I never sold it, but it was bitch to shoot in CMP (I'm left handed).

You should get some looks at the range with yours.

You mentioned no marks on barrel? That makes sense since the barrel was shortened.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 4 groove Smith-Corona (the typewriter folks)?
