If you have trouble with your hands an find heat to be helpful get a Dr. Scholl's paraffin bath. It's an electric pot to melt paraffin wax blocks once melted soak your hands in it. Very helpful for arthritis or other painful conditions of the hands.

If I lost the use of my thumb, I’d be more concerned about how to ‘spank it’.

Sorry guys... couldn’t resist this threadcrap.

I had a hand crush injury 8 years ago.
4 surgeries, 300 + physical therapy visits, an attempt to implant a new knuckle spur, eventual removal of the pinky and fusing of the ring finger into a grip position.

I lost 2/3rds of my grip strength.

I decided to take another tac pistol class last year.
    I boughtb a G19 to replace the G32 and 23.

I have essentially my middle finger, trigger finger and thumb functional.

Fucking up your thumb has to be hard to deal with. I suppose i was lucky with my injury.
I can use the hand but not for long periods of time and fine finger manipulation is a memory.
I drop everything that hand tries to hold onto.

The pistol class wasn't too bad but took a few days to get over.

Now. Having a sawzall blade penetrate your dominant eye cornea and having stitches in that cornea for almost 6 months was an Absolute bitch

    OH FOOK!!
    That's hardcore.
I was about to post my injury but yours just took the wind right out of me.
    Hurt just to read it.
I hope you managed to heal up fairly well.
    Shee-it.

Yep, my rheumatologist got me into one of them. Have not used it for years but it works well.

Also, if you have trouble with your hands drying and cracking open in the winter (which hurts)...this will help with that too.

I think watching the needle/ suturing device coming down and into.the cornea and tying a knot, tugging on both ends was bad.
Having the knot rub the inside of your eyelid was the epitome of discomfort.

I don't know if I described the procedure correctly.
The reason for the length of time wss that there are no blood vessels in the cornea and it takes time to fuse together.

Felt like a lash was always in there for a couple years.
Focus was off as well. Red dots are double with an interconnecting spur.

I have fairly good use after both injuries.
Other guys never get that so I do feel lucky in that sense.

I'm taking that Randy Cain pistol class over Memorial Day.
I can still shoot reasonably well but slower to try focussing on the front sight.

Not being able to use your thumb has to be a bitch.
I feel for guys that injure that .

I will never forget to put on glasses after reading about your injury.
Those blades snap and fly all over the place but people still never expect it to get them in the eye.
If you don't mind, I think I will be using your story the next time I have to teach a kid how to use tools safely.
Your story is more rattling than my nail-gunning myself to a 2x4 story, or the story about the guy on my crew that circular sawed his own thigh open.
