I was just watching a video on the new SB Tactical SBA3 brace and since it's adjustable using a standard Milspec receiver extension people are all up in arms running scared regarding the ATF. Someone sent the owner of SB Tactical an e-mail about it and this was his response.

ATF requires submission for new technology. In 2004, they approved use of a carbine receiver extension on pistols (letter attached). In 2012, they approved our bifurcated flap with a strap as a pistol stabilizing brace. And in 2015, they approved adjustability for SB Tactical pistol stabilizing braces. The SBA3 is a combination of 3 previously approved technologies.

As you can imagine, we expend significant resources on product development and compliance with legal counsel. We strongly urge you to seek qualified legal counsel whenever questions of compliance arise.

    Regards,

    Jeff Creamer
Everything these companies put out is pre approved by the ATF these guy's want to go to jail about as much as I do and their livelihoods also depend on it. Doesn't mean things wont change but for now I am going to follow the letter of the law and use my brace exactly as they allow.

Thank you all for your responses. Ive made my decision against getting buying this 'brace' and went with getting the atk-ul trigger for my AK, which I know is legal and will be a nice upgrade for my rifle.

Honestly, if I lived in the woods and had a range in my back yard, id have bought the brace without a second thought. Since I dont, and my shooting takes place at my sportsmans club around a bunch of nosey fudds, Im simply not gonna take that chance. Maybe someday Ill have the money to get a stock set up AND a tax stamp, but that thats not today.

Do what’s best for you but it’s 100% legal and approved by the ATF.
