Default neat old Mauser from Nicaragua

I found this old dirty Mauser at the local shop a bit ago. I cleaned it up and now it doesn't look that bad. It's a vz 24 with a Nicaraguan mark on the stock. The only serial numbers on the whole rifle are on the receiver and the stock and they match. The bolt has no serial numbers at all but is marked in three places with a circle z. I found online that Zbrojovka Brno shipped 1000 Mausers in 1937 for the Nicaraguan army. This one apparently belonged to Ortega.
The bore looks pretty good now that I gave it a good cleaning. I'll probably test it out on the range in the next week or so. It will never be pretty, but I hope that it's a good shooter.

The rifle is cool. I wonder, what ever happened to Ortega? Maybe he got tied to a post for carving his name in the stock.

Nice rifle! People tend to discount South American firearms but many were made by the same top European companies that made the (more desired) WWII firearms.

We should have traded 1:1 for stuff like that when Obama did the Fast and Furious.

Isn't Ortega in Nicaragua like Smith or Jones in the US?
