    Default Spring Gobbler Anyone???

I love hunting PA Whitetail, Black Bear, and just about anything else you can hunt. However, I think I may very well be the WORST turkey hunter born in the great state of Pennsylvania. I took a few years off after basically giving up on ever taking a Spring Bird, but I think I am going to give a try again this year. I have seen a few birds while out hunting but in all honesty I have never even called a bearded bird anywhere near me. When I call birds it must sound like something the turkeys hate.

Anyone else going to try to call in some birds??

I just picked up some shells today. A couple of years ago I built a turkey call. Never called anything in with it though. Planning to try this year.

Quite a few turkey's round here. Watched a flock of 20 or so when the sun came out briefly today in a back field.
Found if your lucky enough to try at the right time they'll respond to anything.
I've had them come in to a first morning crow call once, and with my utmost skill to a turkey call that sounded like a raped ape.
Only thing I can figure out is they must of thought what the hell was that and came to check it out.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Nope I am the worst. I hunt spring birds where there aren't any.
    Some people just plain suck.

You have to put them to bed the night before and get there early to have a chance. Just my opinion. It does no good to call to something that can't hear you. I have found that if a tom is henned up, your (and my) attempts at luring him away from a REAL hen turkey are not worth the effort put into running a striker over slate. I'll be out. Good luck.

What is your method for "putting them to bed" ?? I understand they roost and have seen them flying up to trees at night and flying down from trees in the morning while bow hunting whitetail. I guess my question is how do you locate the roosting area in the spring?? Do you just walk around the woods 1/2 hour before sunset? Or do you wait until the night time and then call in an attempt to locate?? Any help would be appreciated.
