Default Second "March For Our Lives" rally in Beaver

This was billed as a "town hall" event and both pro- and anti-gun groups were invited to attend. But the banner behind the speakers was "March For Our Lives". Featured speakers were three students and two local candidates for state office, and the newly-elected Connor Lamb. All speakers featured the need for additional "common sense" gun laws in their remarks, as the solution for "gun violence in our schools".

The audience was split 50/50 pro-gun and anti-gun. Several pro-gun people asked questions or made comments to the speakers, and for the most part audience participation on both sides was civil and respectful of opposing views.

My take-away from the rally was that, if we are serious about preserving our right to keep and bear arms, we need to get organized and get serious about educating the younger generation. The rhetoric from the students was very reminiscent of the anti-war and pro-civil rights movements from when I was their age. For those of you not old enough to recall, it was primarily students who provided the energy for both movements. This resulted in the passage of several key civil rights bills in the '60s that changed the political landscape in the US, and the withdrawal of troops from Viet Nam.

Many of those young people remained politically active throughout their lives, eventually gained positions of political power, and continue to push their progressive political agenda to this day. Think Hillary Clinton.

He may say anything but will certainly do what he is told by the Pelosi-Schumer crowd.
Right of citizens to bear arms ...shall not be questioned.

The last part is the most concerning. This is where the NRA needs to start playing hard ball, and recruiting younger members. Conservatives by nature don't speak up much, so if we can at least get more pro gunners on the same page, we can let our voices be heard at the ballot box, but we need a strong visual presence at these rallies as well, with very concise and articulate supporters off the second amendment.

We can no longer afford to scoff people off as being ignorant. We have to be the educators they need. We have t be strategic. We have to play the game the same way with getting large events going on.

There are pro gun supporters in this generation. They don't come out due to fear of being ridiculed. We need to help them come out. We need to help give them the voice they deserve so that these politicians don't use the other kids as justification that "our kids want x".

We can not let up. This is going to be a hard, and constant fight, and we need to give it our all. Losing our rights is only a generation away, and we are accountable.

We were told that some pro-rights candidates were invited but declined to attend. Those of us locals who showed up did get a chance to comment and question the speakers.

It's too bad you didn't know about all that ahead of time so you could request your time at the podium speaking on behalf of the law abiding citizens and 2A.

Yeah, we had less than 24 hours notice, just like the one in March. On the upside, at least we got some people there and introduced a few facts into the sea of emotion.
