Reloading 45lc and .38
Ordered a reloading kit as .45lc and .38 are more pricey than 9mm.
Used to reload 30 years ago.
What are the best large pistol primers, recommendations?
Thanks.

Re: Reloading 45lc and .38
Great idea. I use CCI primers usually. Never had a problem.
I reload 45 acp, 38 special, and 9mm.
38 are small pistol by the way.
I cast lead for some of my reloads. A box of 50 ends up about $3.00 or less.

If you're just doing plinking ammo don't worry too much about the components.

CCI primers are great, but sometimes I pick up Sellier and Bellot primers from Cabelas when they are on sale for $19.99 a box and they work just fine too.

Re: Reloading 45lc and .38
The .45lc will need large pistol primers. I use winchesters as they're rated for either magnum or standard loads. Only need to stock one large pistol primer that way.
As mentioned .38 special uses small pistol primers. Unless specialized loads any brand that you can easily get in your locale will work.
Mods take this up to reloading section please. It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Re: Reloading 45lc and .38
Keep in mind, CCI primers tend to be harder. If you have done some work to the fire control and get light strikes and no ignition - CCI primers might not go bang. Federal primers tend to be softer. Then magnum primers are of course harder than standard for any manufacturer.

For my S&W revolvers I prefer Federal large pistol (.45 Colt and .45 ACP) and Small Pistol (.38/357).

Federal and CCI and the two I most likely buy and use. Have purchased Winchester when Federal and CCI are not available. All three are reliable and have worked will in 1000s of reloaded rounds for me.

Thanks folks. Be nice to save some $$ for the expensive calibers.
