I know that I can't carry an AR15 in the trunk, none of my cars have one.

I've never carried an AR in the trunk of a car...I have placed one in a trunk on occasion.

Ahhhhh sigh . Gone are the days of good ole gun rack in the back window of the pick up . Never heard of anyone having a gun stolen either but that was a more respectful and civil era! Now you gotta hide them . To the OP just flag down a patrol car and ask them if you can . Simple ! Or call .

I remember as a teenager and young adult going hunting with guns on a gun rack and not worrying about being stopped by the police or having then stolen while having lunch.
