Look at MAC’s video on YouTube, 1k yards for under $1000.

    Great video series.

There are a lot of good videos on YouTube showing guys hitting steel at longer ranges with budget guns and optics. You have to be realistic with this though, your not going to shoot for right repeatable groups with a budget set up but if your looking to hit steel gongs then your good to go,

You don't need $1k optics to shoot long range lots of guys still shoot with iron sights accurately at that range . On the cheap is your quest though , my recommendation find an used older rem. 700 bdl varmit or similar type from savage , tikka, ect . stick a good quality 10x -16x fixed power on it and use the rest of your cash developing good hand loads regardless of the caliber you choose .

I have it in .308 a d it's an excellent rifle. I purchased it for hunring but find myself using it .more and more at the range if I feel like stretching it out a bit. If I were going g to purchase again it would be chambered in 6.5 but for now I am more then happy with it.

Magpul is also coming out with a Hunter stock for it which will take better 10 round box mags.

That's what I've been waiting for to build my $1k-ish long range rifle. I fondled one at the Outdoor Show a couple months back. I really liked the feel of the stock. I've been holding off on getting the Ruger American until I can get the Magpul to go with it. Still not sure what scope I'm going use. My eyesight sucks, so I'm leaning more towards a variable power like the Primary Arms 4-14 ACSS HUD DMR.

Ruge has a new American in the "go wild" camo and cerakote metal bits. I just bought one. Out of the box it takes ai detachable mags and cost me 500 bucks. I picked up a Sig Sauer 2 to 10 power by 42mm scope for 349 (they have them on gunbroker for 299 from tanners sport center, my favorite shop). Add in warne medium height rings for about 40 bucks and a 15 dollar cheek riser from blackhawk and eureka... less than 1000.

I bought mine in 6.5 creedmoor. Ammo can be had from S&B for 12 bucks per box of 20!
