Re: 30-06 Round
I standardized on 150 grain for both the .270 and the 30.06.
Dad believed the 150 in 30.06 would shoot flatter than the 180 though both worked well in my opinion.

Re: 30-06 Round
Any and all will work. Personally I use 150's. The important thing is to use whatever you zeroed your sights with.
Also try a couple different brands to see what your rifle prefers. I used Remington Cor Lokts for years but happen to try some Winchester power points a few years ago and they grouped significantly better in my rifle.

150's here, usually Hornady spire points in handloads. I cut the group size in half when I switched from Remington bullets to Hornady.

Re: 30-06 Round
Weight of the bullet isn't going to make a difference on the killing power for PA whitetail, but it will impact the recoil that you will feel.
.
Shot placement trumps bullet weight.

Find out what shoots best.
I use 180 gr remington core lokt, barnes, and federal trophy bonded.
All 1inch moa and 100 no problem.

Re: 30-06 Round
If I were you I would head on down to Walmart and buy a box of each. Plan a day at the range when you will have time to shoot groups with each load at separate targets. Of course you should give your barrel time to clean between each group and it can’t hurt to pull a boresnake through between groups either.
Then you will know what load shoots best from your intended rifle. At that point you have done your due diligence to as far as picking the ammunition that will make an ethical kill.
If you were somewhat of a perfectionist that is still frugal minded you COULD then head back to Walmart and buy a box of Winchester and a box of Federal with the same grain bullet loading. Then it would be time to repeat the above process to find which of the “economy” hunting load shoots best in your rifle. Once you know that it’s a good idea to go buy 10 boxes from the same lot and you are set for MANY years of happy hunting.Feddog82 Feedback Page http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.ph...light=feddog82

Re: 30-06 Round
I may try that. At least I will zero with my chosen round for sure.

Re: 30-06 Round
The Rem Core-Loct in 125 grain has worked well for me over the last 35 years.
Between WVa and Pa, wide open long range or in the woods, most hits have dropped them with 1 dose of lead poisoning.
