    Default AK-47 7.62 or AR-15 .223. Which Should I Get

For home defense, zombie apocalypse, and range fun.

    I'm not rich $$

I see videos of people shooting all these different caliber guns from anything to .30.30 all the way up to .950 JDJ

Going through 20 different big game rounds and awesome rifles.

Truth is I don't hunt but find the fire power fascinating.

    Then reality sets in.

    I can't afford them.

So I made up my mind

    I'm either getting an AK-47 7.62 or AR-15 .223

What should I get and why

    Thanks

I don't hunt. I don't plan on leaving the United states because I fear flying.

Would an AK-47 or AR-15 stop brown and black bears if encounter took place.

I don't think there is any grizzly bear in the United states

    I'm also strongly considering a 308

I'd get the 7.62 because it's a military round and more deadlier.

A decent AK will be 300 or so bucks more than a decent AR15 unless prices have changed recently.

The AK IMO is easier to maintain because it's a simpler design.
The AR has a boatload more accessories available so it's easy to customize it to your tastes.

You can get Russian 7.62 ammo that shoots well for around $.20 a round. It's cheaper than what I can reload it for. 5.56 ammo is more expensive so if you plan on emptying a lot of magazines the AR will cost more to shoot.

My experience shooting both is that they're about equal for firing. Handling wise the AK doesn't lave a bolt stop and the safety covers the chamber so it may be a little less safe. I'm old and not strong and the charging handle on the AR makes it easier for me to handle.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Rosco the Iroc again." Dammit!

    I'd get a 7.62 AR.

In today's market, go get yourself an AR15. Learn how to take care of it and it will take care of you.

Get a basic model AR15 costs less better sights more accurate and lots of fashion accessories available if you feel it ain't quite "cool" enough as is .
