Transfer questions. I知 new to firearm community
Hello, I知 new to the firearm community and I have a few basic questions. My uncle is unfortunately older and dealing with dementia. That being said my father has taken my uncle in and now has power of attorney over him and his belongings... my uncle has 2 pistols that he is going to give to me and I壇 like to have them transferred over to me leagally. Here is the kicker, the paperwork for both has been lost in the process of moving him, not to mention the firearms are over 20 years old. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. Your Father as POA should be able to sign the guns over to you. The old paper work doesn't matter, they are in your Uncles name. Are you all in Pa.? I am not a lawyer.

I would just go to a local gun store with your uncle and have them do the transfer over to you. It doesn't matter if your uncle does not have any paperwork. The age of the firearms is also irrelevant.

Not all FFLs (transfer agents) charge the same and the difference from low to high may be quite a few dollars. Google FFLs for your zip code or city and you should be able to find a list. Call to confirm if their fee listed online is current.
Just trying to save you a few bucks.

Most of my handguns were purchased used.
When I go to meet the seller at the gun shop/FFL to do the transfer, the seller has never needed to have any "paperwork" present.
The transfer consists of each of you putting your info (name, address, etc) on the transfer paperwork and then a background check is performed on the recipient/buyer. Once that clears, the handgun is now transferred to the recipient/buyer. Done.
You mentioned dementia, so I assume you are saying that the uncle is not able to accompany you to do the transfer.
I don't know the legalities of power of attorney - I assume that your father could do the transfer in his place, but I can't say for certain.

I’m not a lawyer! I may be wrong! Your uncle may be able to gift the guns to his brother. If so, your father may decide to gift them to you! Again, I AM NOT A LAWYER, and, according to my wife, I am QUITE OFTEN wrong!

McGee03289 As long as you and your uncle are both PA residents just to a local FFL and fill out the transfer/background check paperwork.
If your uncle is physically/mentally unable to do so, you would need to check with a lawyer, several on here, whether your father can use the POA to do this for your uncle..
basically all they need from the seller is a valid PA ID and for him to sign 1 formRetired US Army
