Colt Police Positive .32
One of my son's clients wanted him to look at a pistol he's interested in buying. He asked me to look at it because he thought the throat of the barrel looked cracked.
I'm not a revolver guy but I know when something's not right.
This doesn't look like something that could be repaired without replacing the barrel, but I'm no gunsmith.
It's a shame because otherwise it's in pretty good shape. The timing and lockup seem very tight.
Is this worth anything, or is it just a paperweight now?
Its not as rusty as it looks in the picture. I think it's just an effect of the camera/flash.

Looks to me like the timing was off and it was shot. IMO it shouldn't be shot. It will look good cleaned up and put in a shadow box.
Aggies Coach Really ??? Take off the tin foil bro.

Re: Colt Police Positive .32
There are two areas I think I'm seeing of concern.
The (3) arrows pointing to what appears to be a crack in the frame and (2) arrows pointing to an area of the forcing cone.
With them both being in the same direction from the bore, I'd say something smacked the forcing cone. ...out of timing as mentioned by Daycrawler.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought too.
I didn't notice the frame crack, good eye knight!
It looks like that piece between the two cracks in the forcing cone is pushed outward. Definitely not something I would consider shooting. Too small for my hands anyway.
Again, not being a revolver guy, how would bad timing cause a bullet to hit it at that position? Wouldnt it be more at 9 or 3 o'clock?
Are these worth anything if in good shape?
Also, what round do these shoot? .32 long?

Re: Colt Police Positive .32
Bad timing is the difference between the bullet going straight down the barrel, or striking the edge of the forcing cone. The timing was just out enough to allow the primer to be struck. So the bullet struck at the 11:00 position. IDK about price and rounds for that revolver.
After looking at the picture some more, is the top strap cracked is the front as well? I cant tell.Aggies Coach Really ??? Take off the tin foil bro.
