Default Thompson Center Bolt Action Rifles

I was looking at the T/C Compass in .308 for a beginner hunting rifle for our son. I'd really prefer to get him a CZ or a Begara but funds are limited right now.

Theyre going for about $225 with the rebate. All the reviews I've seen are very positive.

The Venture looks a bit nicer and is about $100 more.

Does anybody have either one, and are you happy with it?

    Thanks!

My wife bought me a venture in .25-06 last spring. Like you I was some what reluctant about it. What I can tell you now is that it is one of the best shooting rifles I have. In fact I'm looking for an excuse to pick one up in .280 Remington.

The left hand target is typical of the groups I get with this rifle. This with factory Remington 120 gr Core lokt's. The range was 100 yards.

Thanks for the reply Penn. Not bad shooting.

Everyone says they are very accurate, and can't be beat for the price.

It seems like a better way to go than a entry level Savage or Freedom Group Remington.

I've never tried the others so won't comment one way or the other. I have a Tikka T-3 lite in .338 Win mag that is a real shooter, have had good luck with Weatherby Vanguards and Remington 700's. My 700's are older though. Even the ones that are the cheaper SPS's shoot well or I wouldn't keep them. The biggest issue with the TC's is that there is no aftermarket support at all. But I'm not going to mess with a rifle that shoots that well anyways. For the price they're hard to beat.
