I remember a line from a John Wayne movie, I'm pretty sure it was the Shootist, his accomplice asked him why he carried with only five shots and the hammer down on an empty chamber. John Wayne explained that the single action pistol could discharge while riding a horse or getting jarred about if carried with the hammer down on a loaded chamber but if you think you're going need six shots then by God carry six shots.

If you think it's necessary to carry more than a single stack .45 or 9mm then by God carry a double stack 9mm or whatever you deem necessary. I prefer the Sig p226 but the p229 is a bit smaller for better concealment.

I'll tell that to the people at every shoot I go to when their 1911 fails. Because it's literally every shoot.

I’ve been carrying my Ruger LCR .357 with an extra speed loader pretty often lately. I don’t feel under gun with my 158 grain sjhp .357 magnum rounds.

That may be... if it is designed such that it is prone to failure in this fashion...seems like a problem with the gun.

IMHO, a semi auto pistol should be designed such that anyone who knows the basics of how to use a semi auto pistol should be able to pick it up and use it without any issues, even if they have never seen that particular model of pistol before.
