Everything gghbi said. It has to fit you and you have to enjoy shooting it. If you are carrying it for you EDC weight is a big consideration. IMHO no one gun fits the bill. Adjustable wrenches dont fit every bolt. Try them out what ever you like is the best for you.

All nice handguns. It really comes down to what are you most comfortable with. I'm a Glock guy who loves my new Glock 17 Gen5 and I shoot well with it. My buddy loves his M&P and he shoots great with it... At this point, you got all great choices, get to the range, shoot each one, and one of them will stand out for you. At this point, all you are going to get from PAFOA are who loves there favorite handgun the most.. hint - The Glock is better... HAHAHA.. just saying. Seriously, try to make it out to one of the group shoots and you will probably find all of them there being carried and possibly get a chance to shoot each one.

Never touched a Glock but I do like my M&P 9's.

My buddy just bought new Taurus Millennium 9mm and it seemed pretty nice for less than 200 bucks. He hasnt shot it yet.

Seriously, everyone is going to tell you what THEY like best, not what's best for you. There are ranges around that permit rental of various handguns I suggest you go try out your choices by actually shooting them.
Why limit yourself? Take a look at CZ also. I have a 75B Shadow that has the finest trigger I've found on ANY pistol. It is single action so usable for me. Unfortunately the DA/SA CZ types have too long a reach for me to get to the trigger. I had a Glock 19 2nd gen for years and found that I could really damage the heel of my hand doing rapid magazine changes in IDPA matches so I traded it for a G17. While you're at it check out the Glock 19X a G17 frame mated to a G19 slide.

    Probably a mid size/compact for a carry/home defense/range pistol.

Full sized guns really aren't the best choice for CCW, but they're great for a home defense range toy.

Most compacts conceal a lot better, and are generally more comfortable to carry, especially IWB.

I'm partial to XD(M)'s myself. I shoot them the best out all of the striker fired plastic crew. They fit my hand well, and being partial to 1911's, I do like the grip safety.

I often borrow my wife's XDSC, It's one of my favorite carry guns. It's nice and small but I can get a fill grip on it with the pinky extension. It's also almost as accurate than my full sized XDM.

My son loves his Glocks, and his buddy is an M&P fanboy. That's what works for them, and that's what matters.

You can't really go wrong with any of the choices you mentioned. Trying them all out at the range is the best way to find out which one works best for you.
