    Default Rusted But Plate ?

i re-orginized my safe this morning and everything was go to go except the but plate on one of my Mausers. Humidity level in the basement is in the mid 30's and i have a Golden Rod in the safe with every rifle inside a Silicone sock upright. The inside of the but plate appears to have been coated with something, that doesnt look normal.

Bottom two photos look like something ran down the stock and got on the plate. Stock seems streak-stained. Inside of plate looks like an applied product, possibly to keep the inside from oxidizing (rusting)/Looks like the coating worked, too.

Are you talking about the red veins in the stock? If so the entire stock is like that.

This is why I do not allow my guns to touch silicone socks or cloths.

Get yourself one of these soak the plate in penetrating oil and see how much you can get off by hand. This particular pad Wil not scratch ruin the metal.

Im glad you mentioned this. I just remembered that the actually silicone sock itself had rust imbedded I. The fibers. I had to peel it off of the but stock. It looked like somebody poured jelly into the sock an it dried but instead of jelly it was rust. I’ll get more photos tomorrow.

That rod he is using may be doing something to the environment inside there.
Thats my guess, reminds me of those forever doors that rotted out in two years due to electrolysis.
