Does it matter what "reason" you check on the LTCF form?
I am a new firearm owner and I just applied for a concealed carry permit in Philadelphia. I checked "target shooting" as the reason because realistically the main time I will probably be carrying is back and forth to the range. But I was thinking later, I hope there isn't such a thing as a restricted permit. As in, that it would say "target shooting" as the reason on the permit and if this could result in me being harassed for carrying in a circumstance when I realistically couldn't be going to the range. Does the reason for the permit have any actual effect on the permit?
Maybe this sounds paranoid, but after the hassle of applying for a LTCF in Philadelphia, I feel like I'm considered a criminal for wanting a permit. I'm sure you guys know, but they even make you submit to fingerprinting to apply for a LTCF in Philly.

I checked "protection" and "collecting" on my appliation and it came back as "other." Go figure.

I checked everything available. My LTCF states for "general use".
Be safe (and generally useful ).

I feel your pain. An LTCF is an LTCF, AFAIK there is nothing in the UFA that distinguishes between the categories. But I wouldn't bet money on all cops knowing that. I would check self-defense. My thinking is that if you check anything else you may end up in trouble if you encounter an LEO who thinks that the categories do matter.

As already stated, it doesn't matter what reason you checked, the LTC is good for ALL reasons. Actually, the purpose of the LTC is to allow you to carry concealed or in a vehicle, so the reasons are worthless.

Hmmm...I checked everything on my app and my LTCF states "protection" as 'reason to carry'. Yeah, protection from those nut-jobs who think they've seen mt. lions in central PA... [jab]swarner[/jab] lol!

Re: Does it matter what "reason" you check on the LTCF form?
I just checked mine. Mine is protection, and sports.
I had a guy at the gunsmith tell me yesterday, that if you check "sports" you can hunt with a handgun as well. I thought it was bullshit, and you need a handgun hunting permit, as well.
Not to hijack, but does anyone know if that's true?

While the "nut-job" title is warranted, it should not be because of the large cat thing, it is the damn voices!! If I had any balls, and I ever get close to one (again), maybe I'll use the Taser. I bet if I got one this way I would get rep then
As far as the hunting with a handgun, my understanding is that an LTCF is all that is needed. I carry a .357 Magnum with me when hunting and have for 25 years. I think the "Sportsman's Permit" is for those that do not have, and can not get, a LTCF. My experience has been individuals under 21 and years ago, folks from Philadelphia when they did not issue LTCFs.
Be safe (and do not mind the voices!)..

I read something a couple years ago (can't remember where though) that said the reason box was just for gathering statistics. I just check defense on my applications and leave it at that.
Please help my Baby Kitties and I avoid being homeless.
