Default How is a sunset installed in a proposed bill?

As is well known, Clinton's AWB sunseted in a stated time. The latest proposed AWB has no sunset in it. It went to the judiciary committee. Is a sunset a form of amendment? Perhaps as a compromise in order to get it enacted?

I can't say for sure, but I would assume it can come to be at any point during the legislative process...either in the original language, by amendment, or in conference committee.

Sunset clauses should be included in a lot more legislation. It gets included by having enough of us demand our congress-critters include it.

It was great for the AWB because the AWB was a knee jerk reaction, and a few years later cooler heads were able to prevail thanks to the inclusion of the sunset clause.

A sunset clause would have been a great addition to the legislation that enacted the Johnstown Flood Tax. It would have been great for the NFA, the GCA, affirmative action, and all kinds of other things.

If it were up to me, every bill would have to have a sunset clause, and only after the bill was reenacted consistently for 20 years could it be presented as a bill with no sunset clause. That would go a long way to preserve liberty by getting rid of unnecessary and ineffective legislation.

How do ya think we could get something like that done?

Well, we could petition our congress-critters to submit a bill.

But the other side would probably put in a sunset clause...

Yes the first AW Ban did have a sunset clause, but they will not make that mistake again. The next time is for keeps.

That is a good reason to demand susset clauses with every new bill. It's a good thing across the board.
