1.
a gesture in which the palm of one's hand is brought to one's face, as an expression of disbelief, shame, or exasperation.

verb
1.
bring the palm of one's hand to one's face, as an expression of disbelief, shame, or exasperation.
"how many times did she facepalm during the hearing?"
It is in response to you trying to take a firearm into NJ. Your paraphernalia conviction will be the least of your worries in Rahway Prison.

Re: Define "unloaded rifle" in a vehicle
You need to read the bolded part. Deviations from where? This is the law for when you are transporting between the few places NJ lets you (like from home to range or hunting).
Elsewhere in their multitude of laws they spell out the few places you can transport your firearm too (and that means rifles, shotguns and air rifles too).
If they catch you with a shotgun in your trunk you will be arrested. You might be able to convince a judge you were going straight to a shooting range but that does not sound like the OPs intent.

Re: Define "unloaded rifle" in a vehicle
That NJSP website excerpt is misleading. See my post here:http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.ph...78#post1222978
As I concluded therein:
If you don't qualify under one of those four exemptions then the transport mechanism of 6g is moot. Note the very specific cross-references in each case to 6g and 6g's back reference to them.
Unless you qualify under an NJ 2C:39-6 professional/activity exemption or hold an NJ CCW (for handguns) or NJFID (for longarms) its a 5 year felony to POSSESS in the state with the exception of those travelling under 18 USC 926A (FOPA) while NJ is an intervening state of the trip.
If you get an NJFID card you can transport unloaded longarms relatively unfettered -avoiding statutorily prohibited places like courts, schools, etc.Last edited by tl_3237; March 5th, 2018 at 09:33 AM.

Re: Define "unloaded rifle" in a vehicle
When you do a search of "transporting firearms in NJ" it takes you straight to the misguided rules for transporting to a range or hunting etc. posted above. They say nothing about the other rules that will get you in big trouble (or jail).......
I wonder why the NJSP would do that? Its almost like they want you to be in violation so they can arrest you!

Re: Define "unloaded rifle" in a vehicle
Before you use information provided by the NJSP for firearm travel look up Brian Aitken.
That's how he got a 7 year stretch in Rahway.
You cannot drive around NJ with an unloaded firearm of any kind for any purpose to include black powder and rubber band (whatever that is).
As stated above if you can get a NJ FID card you can transport an unloaded long gun.

Re: Define "unloaded rifle" in a vehicle
The law is very simple the firearm must be unloaded and the ammo in a separate location.

Re: Define "unloaded rifle" in a vehicle
Well that fucking sucks.
So under that definition, if my put my rifle and loaded magazines in a Pelican case, with four fucking locks on it, in the back of my vehicle, that is considered "loaded" even though none of the magazines are inserted into the rifle??
Well....shit.
