READING, Pa. - Reading students and teachers will have the opportunity to join their counterparts across the country in calling for an end to gun violence in the nation's schools.
The school board announced at its meeting Wednesday night that students will be permitted to walk out of school for 17 minutes on March 14 as part of the "ENOUGH: National School Walkout."
The 17 minutes will mark one minute for each of the 17 students and staff members who lost their lives in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14.
"Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school," organizers said on the event's website. "Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day."
The Exeter Jr./Sr. High School, Wilson High School, and Kutztown Area Middle School are also scheduled to take part in the 10 a.m. walkout, according to the event's website.

The walkout is set to take place 10 days before a nationwide "March for Our Lives" event, which calls on children and their families to take to the streets of the nation's capital and in cities across the country to demand that their lives and safety become a priority.
The March for Our Lives event in Reading is set for 12:30 p.m. on March 24, with the location yet to be announced.

Dock their pay, truancy for the kids.Galations 6:9...And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Re: Reading School District Part of 'National Walkout'
I agree it's their 1st amendment right to protest. But with every right, there are consequences.
For the teachers: they lose pay for not being on the job & have to stay after school to finish their work teaching.
students: they should have to stay after school to make up the lost time.
