FOPA was my first thought. But wasn't there that court case with the Port Authority of NY/NJ that didn't include the short "on foot" portion of going from car to air travel?

Yes, and MD has been known to play a game or two with FOPA as well (though I've never personally had an issue flying out of BWI with a handgun). I would recommend flying out of a PA airport if possible.

I’ll let him know to make sure he flies out of a PA airport.

You can have a connecting flight in those states, just don't touch your checked bags, even if you get stuck in the airport.

I'll add from personal experience. Stay out of Philly. Long story short, not all Officers believe an 18-20 year old is legally able to posses a handgun in PA.

Thank you everyone for the advice and quick responses. One more question as to this situation:

So his dad who is currently in PA and my friend is in Florida. Would it be legal for his dad to transport his son's handgun to the airport, declare it, and fly to Florida to give him his handgun to bring to Colorado? (They're both meeting in Florida for Spring Break)

    Thank you!

Tell your "friend" that what you posted above is questionable and needs to be confirmed legal or illegal by a gun rights attorney.
That is next level stuff compared to everything else you posted.
You need to consult with a lawyer that specializes in gun law.

Ok, I'll let him know. Definitely best for him to not risk it. Thanks.

Send a private message to GunLawyer001 and ask for a consultation.
He will be able to tell you with certainty what's ok to do.
